How’s your water intake today?water

Many patients complain about dry eye.  But when asked how much water do you drink daily, the answer is almost always “not enough”.  Our bodies are 60% water.  We need water to survive.  Is it surprising that you will suffer from dry eye and discomfort in contact lenses, particularly toward the end of the day, if you are not drinking enough water… particularly if you live in the desert?  We are talking good, old fashioned H2O here.  Not iced tea, coffee, or juice.  Mineral waters count, artificially sweetened and caffeinated beverages do not.  For every beverage you consume with caffeine, juice, or alcohol, you need to drink two glasses of water just to stay hydrated.  If you wait until you are thirsty to drink, you waited too long.  Stay hydrated by drinking 6-8  eight ounce glasses of water per day.  Need help staying on track?  Stop by Vision Source RIO for your complimentary water tumbler.  Fill it up twice per day, and you’ve met your goal!
